Powersearching with Google
In the introduction class of power searching with Google, I think the number one thing that I really benefitted from is choosing the keywords that I should put into my query. I’m that type of person that would type a big long sentence into the Google search box without really thinking of what I am really typing in. Choosing key words are important because it can allow Google to really understand what type of results you want. If you changed your query from a long phrase to a short couple of keywords, your results could change dramatically. It might help if you put yourself into the author’s mind of the article, like what words would they use? From now on whenever I am doing an important search, I will remember to use key words. In the interpreting results class, the thing that I really thought I took the most away from was understanding more of the options of media Google has to offer. I always knew that there more tabs other than search or images and maps, but there’s also books and news and shopping that I don’t really use that much, and I think it would be helpful if I started using that more often.
